Class Of '83: Bobby Deol Reveals Salman Khan Approached Him For Race 3 By Asking 'Mamu Shirt Utarega?' - EXCLUSIVE
In an exclusive chat with us, Bobby Deol opens up on his upcoming Netflix film Class of '83, how Salman Khan had approached him for Race 3 and more.
Bobby Deol is all set to wow fans with Class of '83, a Netflix original that has been backed by Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment. Class of '83 also marks the debut of five newcomers - Bhupendra Jadawat, Ninad Mahajani, Hitesh Bhojraj, Sameer Paranjape and Prithvik Pratap. The trailer and posters of it have managed to garner immense buzz and good reviews. We recently sat for a chat with Bobby Deol and others to know their experience on the same and it was one heck of a candid conversation. The cast opened up on their best scenes, how Class of '83 happened and, of course, their experiences of working with each other. Bobby Deol also shared the interesting story behind how his mamu Salman Khan offered him Race 3.
Upon being asked about Salman Khan and SRK's reaction to his OTT debut, Bobby said, "I was very excited and they all are very fond of me - Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan. That way I have a very good rapport with all the people I've known in my life in the industry and I'm grateful for their love and affection. Salman and I have known each other from a lot of years - when he was starting his career and I was practising horse riding, biking and all that on the beach, we used to meet and that's how I got to know him. We became good friends and lovingly started calling mamu to each other. And, obviously, I remember when my bad phase was going on, Salman Khan told me 'why haven't you done this? Why did you grow a beard?' So, at that time, I had this big beard and I was playing a very dark kind of project. It was very intense and interesting. Things, however, didn't work but I kept that beard for two years."
He added, "He (Salman Khan) told me to get rid of it and asked why am I not doing anything. I said 'Mamu, I am trying to but nothing's happening'. He told me when he was going through a bad phase he got on my brother's (Sunny Deol) back and did a film with him then he got on Sanjay Dutt's back. Fir I said mamu let me get on your back and move ahead, to which, Salman told he will let me know. 2-3 years passed and I decided I'll work hard so that whenever I get work, I should be ready for it. One day he just calls me and asks, 'Mamu, shirt utarega?' and I said, 'Mamu, main kuch bhi karunga'. So, that's how Race 3 happened."
